Travel Tips to Make Your Holiday More Manageable
Holiday travel doesn't have to mean big-time stress. The TSA is giving travelers tips on how to handle checking in at airports this Christmas season.
Trying to stretch your budget and find the best
airline travel deal
over the holiday season is frustrating enough. But the real headaches can come after you get to the airport. As many holiday travelers have found over the years, finding
discount vacation package
deals over the Christmas season is not nearly as difficult as surviving the battle zone that is a modern airport. This is especially true in the years since the 9/11 attacks as increased airport security have made an already stressful situation even more fraught with peril.
The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) wants to help you with your holiday travel. While they can't find a
vacation package special
for you, they can help you navigate the airport this holiday. The TSA has released some holiday travel tips on their official blog that can get you checked into your flight and seated as quickly as possible.
Family Lanes:
Just like the name implies, these special areas at the check-in gates are designed for families with small children who might require more time to get through the security screening process. It's important for single travelers to leave the Family Lanes open for families and stay in other lines during screening.
Gifts:
Any gift needs to be inspected, meaning that it needs to be unwrapped so that the TSA personnel can look at it. There is no guarantee that the gift wrap will be returned in good enough condition to be reused, so the TSA recommends not bringing gift-wrapped items and instead waiting to wrap them after you've arrived.
Arrive Early:
Airports are notoriously cramped during the holidays as people try to get home to friends and family. People who don't normally fly but are taking advantage of a great vacation package special can slow down the process even more because they aren't familiar with the customs of airline travel. It's a great idea to arrive as early as possible - after all, you can always relax at the terminal once you are checked in.
